‘Pregnancy Pact’
Stephanie was the Gloucester Public Schools beat reporter for the Cape Ann Beacon when the superintendent of schools reported a rise in teen pregnancy to the Gloucester School Committee. Time magazine picked up the story, referring to a “pregnancy pact” made by students at the school, leading to international coverage and a media circus invading the city. Cape Ann stands in for Alaska
The state of Massachusetts has seen a rise in film production in the last five years, thanks to a state tax credit available to filmmakers who bring their work to the Bay State. The picturesque Cape Ann towns of Rockport, Gloucester and Manchester played the role of Sitka, Alaska in Disney’s “The Proposal.” Stephanie covered the action, from Betty White’s experience in the small town of Rockport to how the filming impacted the local businesses to Sandra Bullock continuing filming after being hit by a drunk driver in Gloucester.
Sitka, Alaska elected politician Scott McAdams read Stephanie’s coverage online and posted a comment on one of her stories, sharing his displeasure at the missed opportunity for an economic boom that filming a movie in Sitka would have resulted in. Stephanie contacted McAdams, which led to a new angle on the story.
Cold case warms up
